Makers Market: Celebrating Small Businesses and Local Creativity

The Avalon in Alpharetta, Georgia, is well-known for its vibrant shopping, dining, and entertainment scene. But once a month, amongst an array of known brands and luxury stores, the heart of the plaza is transformed into something remarkable—a hub for local entrepreneurs and artisans. Hosted by Makers Market, their “Outdoor Market” event brings together a mix of entrepreneurship, craftsmanship, and community spirit.

Promoting American-Made

Makers Market isn’t just a store—it’s a movement. With locations across California's Bay Area and a standout spot in Alpharetta, its mission is clear and compelling. “Our mission is to rebuild the legacy of American made,” shared Jarod, manager of Maker’s Market in Alpharetta. “Every product in our store comes from an American maker, artist, or small business.”

This passion for promoting local talent extends beyond the shelves. Each month, Makers Market organizes events like this one, providing small business owners and local artisans a platform to showcase their products and their stories.

It’s a celebration of craftsmanship, and more importantly, a way to keep American-made products alive.

Stories That Inspire

For small business owners like Edward Rowan, who creates hand-drawn maps, events like these are more than an opportunity to sell products; they’re a lifeline. Edward’s business started as an idea after the writers’ strike affected his job in the animation industry.

“…I had to come up with something else, and so I created these maps. It’s helped me tremendously—I make a living doing this. It’s been really good to me. I’m very grateful for it.”

For others, like Selena Clay of Salyana Essentials LLC, the joy of these events lies in creating connections. Selling hand crafted self-care products like herbal teas, body oils, and scrubs, Selena cherishes moments when customers appreciate them. “I’ve gotten to actually take the products that I make and see people’s faces light up,” she shares. “They tell me, ‘I love this smell.’ It’s been awesome in that way.”

These personal moments remind us that small businesses aren’t just about products. They’re about people, passion, and possibility.

The Heart of Small Business

Small businesses are often said to be the backbone of the economy, at events like Makers Market’s “Outdoor Market”, you get to see that reality in action. Each artist, craftsperson, and entrepreneur bring a unique story and a special touch to their work, creating a meaningful experience that goes beyond shopping.

For the small business owners, it’s a chance to grow, connect, and thrive. For shoppers and supporters, it’s a joyful opportunity to invest in their community and the people who make it remarkable.
