Statesboro is making a BIG deal about entrepreneurship.
You may have heard about the Business Innovation Group out of Georgia Southern University, but how much do you know about the companies they’ve helped? This spring, our team had the pleasure to interview two firms that work from BIG and learn how they are using the resources to grow their businesses.
What's BIG?
The Business Innovation Group at Georgia Southern University works to build an ecosystem throughout the State of Georgia to help entrepreneurs create, incubate, and accelerate their for-profit business enterprises. BIG facilitates access to university resources, creates opportunities for student learning, and fosters an environment that supports a growth mindset throughout the state.
The diverse backgrounds and experience of the staff are key to supporting the variety of businesses they encounter. “What I love about my role with BIG, is that we really get to meet clients where they are. Some are coming straight out of university, but the majority are job changers, second career, or veterans returning to civilian life,” shared the accelerator manager, Catherine Blake.

A quick stroll through the offices of BIG and you’ll see a variety of company’s utilizing the space – everything from Waters Edge Design, architectural and interior designs, The Rolling Monkey, a handcrafted ice-cream company, to the two firms we recently interviewed, Beyond Health Group and The Whiskey Grail. |
